I would propose a 4 month reading/movie challenge! I used NoveList to do a Book to Movie and Horror search to get a list of books that are also movies. I created sheets that patrons could pick up and track what they are reading and watching. Each item they watch or read, they will earn an entry form into a Digital Movie give-away at the end of the time period. For an example, I did April 1 through August 1 with the drawing on August 2. I would draw out 10 names and each person would win one digital copy of a movie. Also, I would use the round display case shown below as the primary location for the books and movies that are a part of the passive program. Since it is Horror Genre it would be fun to do during the fall season as well. Romance could be spring time, etc. The program would be free since we already have the items and the digital movie copies. Also, if we would not have the book title or movie in house, we can request it from another library. It would be a fun way to get two types of media included. We could also extend it to audio books and eBooks as well for even more media types to be included.

That's a really cool promotional program you've come up with. My library would not be able to give away digital movies but could come up with some other prizes. I hope you're able to implement your idea. I don't know if we would be able to obtain movies through ILL. I'm not sure if we ILL our DVDs / blu-ray. Don't take that as criticism, as I said your idea is great. I'm just thinking how I would implement it at my library.
ReplyDeleteWe belong to Evergreen and it has only been during the last year that we can transit DVDs. Our patrons love it and I really do, too!
DeleteThis is a really clever idea and I haven’t seen it before!!! I bet this would work really well at my library. I’ll have to pass along a similar suggestion!
ReplyDeleteShannon, this is really amazing!! My new library has a very interactive movie club and I may suggest something similar in the future. I'm really impressed!! What inspired this idea?
ReplyDeleteDuring our summer reading program we do a bonus reading challenge for adults. For adults, they earn one entry form for every book read. A few years ago, we added a bonus sheet that if they picked a title that also satisfied an item on the bonus sheet they would receive two entry forms. (book with a red cover, youth mature genre, book with at least 200 pages... stuff like that. We sit down every May and create a new list.) I kept thinking about that bonus list and thought I could mesh it with the movies for a new list for this assignment. I LOVE NoveList, especially the Book to Movie search. I played with it to see if it would do Book to Movie AND horror and it did! So, I was able to blend the two to create the list. I exported it to excel, cleaned it up, and there is my list! I will probably hang on to it until the fall and actually implement it, if I get the ok from the Director. Thank you for the compliment!
DeleteWhat a unique idea! I absolutely love it and I think you came up with a great checklist as well. Full points!
