Week 12 Prompt
The non-fiction category I read the most is.... cookbooks! I LOVE cookbooks! At our annual library book sale I have been known to purchases BOXES of them. I will sit and read them like novels. My favorites are "old timey" cookbooks that discuss recipes used in the early 1900s during war times and as well as church cookbooks! Church potlucks typically have the BEST dishes and desserts so it is a a real "find" to me when a church compilation cookbook turns up that has the members favorite recipes included. It may be a different take on non-fiction books, but recipe books are hot commodities in my library!

ReplyDeleteI am on vacation this week so I worked ahead. Out of town from March 22- april 1.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an entertaining cookbook with some personality to it! I think there's a delicate balance that cookbooks have to strike between anecdote and actual recipes, and it sounds like this one has it figured out pretty well. One cookbook that I've enjoyed for its personality and didactic quality is Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, which gets at the balance of a meal and really teaches you how to craft dishes that work well together.
ReplyDeleteMy son also loves to read cookbooks! One of his favorites was Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home. I bought it originally because we received an ice cream maker for Christmas last year, then he read it over and over- so much so that when we went to Ohio for a vacation last summer going to Jeni's was the only thing he wanted to do! Thank you for reminding me that cookbooks can be more than just recipes (and even when they are only recipes- they are still great fun!).
ReplyDeleteExcellent job fleshing this book out to fill this! It helps add on a whole new dimension not always covered in the summary! I haven't gotten through everyone's assignment yet, but so far it seems as if you are the only one who did a cookbook! Full points!
